REME Museum Science Pack review

Programme objectives

To develop a KS2 science pack for the museum making use of CEDA funding.
Evaluation meetings were held and a trial took place during National Science Week.

Time frame

February and March, 2002

Participant(s)

Three schools from central Berkshire, Wokingham and South East Berkshire were invited to review the compiled research at the museum plus draft and trial the new science pack.

  • All age groups in Key stage 2.
  • Special needs were taken into account through the input of Addington school in Wokingham

    Funding allowed for teachers to attend the whole process and also provide transportation to participating schools.

Methodology

  • Teachers familiarised themselves with the compiled research from the REME museum on the first placement day, selecting relevant material and preparing the activity instructions plus teachers notes.
  • Second session was arranged to finish the draft text for activities, teachers notes and publicity material which would be included in the finalised teachers pack
  • Teachers brought a class of KS2 students along to the REME Museum to trial the workshops and evaluate the science pack
  • Two additional schools were asked to take part in these final trials to take into account National Science Week
  • Each teacher was asked to provide an evaluation of each stage of the review and drafting procedure. Evaluations of National Science Week were also requested
  • Participating students gave verbal feedback on the day and were asked to evaluate the event back in school. An evaluation of the whole process was attended by all team members
