Theatre Royal – provincial theatre in a popular tourist area

Programme objectives

The teacher placement was organised after a specific request for help for the marketing module of the revised syllabus.
A specific focus on leisure and tourism was created to:

  • Understand the business of the companies
  • Identify different market research methods
  • Understand market segmentation techniques

Teacher Professional Development is seen as a minimum of five hours/ one day. There are agreed outcomes such as curriculum development, project development, training which can take place on a variety of premises.

Time frame

In 2001/2002 an individual placement took place over five months because of difficulties with cover.

Three days were taken and one Saturday.

  • Mixed comprehensive secondary school
  • Applicable age range – 16 to 18 year olds.

  • Planning meeting held
  • Visits for teacher meeting a variety of staff
  • Feedback sessions held with main contacts

Outcome/expected benefits

  • A portfolio on information has been created to enhance delivery of the “Marketing” module of syllabus
  • Provided an update into technological advances in the tourist industry – especially in ICT systems marketing
  • Information learned disseminated through team and faculty meetings
  • Impacted by providing up to date information for more than 75 pupils in this academic year plus future pupils and seven other staff members
